If you want to do cardio exercises in the comfort of your own home, there are many exercise machines to choose from. The four most popular are the exercise bikes, treadmills, rowing machines and elliptical. The question is, what is the best?
The short and simple answer is elliptical. But why? I'll explain why.
The three most important benefits of elliptical
When using an elliptical exercise machine, you and your body benefit in many ways. There are, however, three things that are particularly important and beneficial.
Total Body Workout. Every muscle in your body - both up and down - you will get a good workout. This makes the machine more efficient use. You literally save 50% of the time that would otherwise be used for exercising.
Great cardiovascular workout. Because the whole body is used, the heart and lunges will work hard to keep up. This means that you get an excellent cardiovascular workout. As you can adjust the levels of inclination and resistance, this machine is suitable for users of all fitness levels.
Form of low impact exercise. The elliptical machine is designed to simulate the race but without the stress on joints that running brings. Since your feet never leave the pedals, and because the movements are fluid and smooth, there is little or no impact on your knees and ankles. This means a much lower risk of injury.
What other exercise equipment?
Other exercise equipment I have mentioned are not bad. They have their time and place too.
For example, treadmills are as large as the elliptical for cardio. But the muscle groups of the upper body will be under-utilized, and the risk of injury (high impact on the knees and ankles) is much higher.
The rower is low impact, and also provides a decent cardio workout. But you do not use as many muscles during training on the elliptical. It's always a great exercise machine though.
Finally static bicycle. It can give you a great cardio down without impacting your joints. So far so good. What I do not like is that his upper body hardly used at all, which means that once you have finished the bike, you have to lift weights for 15 minutes to obtain the same training the elliptical provides.
conclusion
The elliptical trainer gives you a complete cardio workout and a good workout in a low to no impact way. Everything at once. None of the three other popular machines that can match. That is why the elliptical machine is the best cardio!
